Worstead Weavers

How did vikings make their clothes?

Guild members took time out today to visit Swanton Abbot Community Primary school, here in rural Norfolk.  We met Mr Hutchinson’s class 8-9yrs olds who were learning all about vikings.  Vikings were prolific weavers.  The children learned how to weave using peg looms, finger sticks and by weaving friendship bracelets and godseyes.   We had mountains of yarn to play with (though not strictly viking yarns!)

The children were incredibly enthusiastic and persevered even when it was a bit tricky.  There was a lovely heap of woven creations by the end of the day and everyone had made something to take home.

We had a brilliant day and so did the children.  We look forward to sharing the wonders of weaving and weaving history to more schools.
